Although in third from bottom place in division 1 University Eagles still look well placed to take the title if they can make up their backlog of fixtures and if they can manage to play any three of their six strongest players on each occasion. With Niall Cameron, Euan Liddle, Ross Martin, Ko Choong Woo, Barry Allan, and Ruth Bridcut eligible to represent the Eagles they undoubtedly have a stronger squad of players available to use than any other team in that league.

Against Seaton Legionnaires (Jim Furneaux, Mitch Reid, Bill Esson) the Eagles (Ko Choong Woo, Ruth Bridcut, Euan Liddle) experienced little difficulty in achieving a convincing 9-1 victory. Only Jim Furneaux was able to gain any joy, in a 15 and 18 victory against Ruth Bridcut.

The strength of the University team this season was underlined last weekend in Birmingham when they took the British University Mens Championship. They beat Manchester, Cambridge (the holders) and Sussex Universities in the run-up to the finals. In the finals they beat Northumbria and Loughborough to take the title. Euan Liddle beat the British Universities singles title holder in the final stages. The University was represented by Niall Cameron, Euan Liddle, Ross Martin and Ko Choong Woo.

Niall Cameron, Aberdeen University, has also been picked to represent Scotland in the forthcoming World Championships.

Ally Waugh is set to make a welcome comeback for the Legionnaires next week due to Furneaux's unavailability.
