Notes for week commencing Monday 28 February 2000
University Eagles (Euan Liddle, Niall Cameron, Barry Allan) fielded their strongest team of the season against luckless Triangle Athletic (Craig Cummine, Yasser Qureshi, Peter Milne) with a predictable outcome.

Neither Liddle nor Cameron were ever in difficulties against any of the Triangle players although surprisingly Qureshi and Milne both took Cameron to a third end. Liddle beat Cummine 6 and 14; Milne 18 and 15; and Qureshi 19 and 11. Cameron beat Qureshi 10, -21, 5; Cummine 10 and 17; and Milne 7, -21, 3.

Allan, whose form has improved dramatically over the last few weeks, opened well against Milne with an 12 and 11 win. He followed this success by beating Qureshi convincingly 18 and 11. Cummine, however, edged through 23-21 and 21-15 to prevent Allan from his second successive clean sweep in a league fixture.

Allan and Cameron won the doubles against Cummine and Qureshi.

Aberdeen University men's team (Allan, Liddle, Cameron and George Pittas) had a comfortable 13-3 victory against Southampton University in the quarter finals of the British universities Team Championships held in Southampton. Liddle, Cameron and Pittas won all their matches. They have now progressed to the semi-final stage to be played in Birmingham this Sunday.

A full strength University team of Pittas, Liddle, and Cameron would undoubtedly be a match for any team in division 1. Unfortunately the distraction at the beginning of the season of the Invitation Singles League and subsequent course and study pressures have been the likely causes of changeable representation in the University first team and of the erratic results obtained. Since the collapse of the Invitation League some of the Eagle's top players have become available for league play. This has however happened too late for them to be serious contenders for honours this season.
