McClymont B (Calum Findlater, Philip Adams, Natalie Gallan) emerged the victors against Triangle Lions (John Abel, Ian Gray, Peter Milne) in the final of the Handicap Knock Out Cup on Thursday evening in the McClymont Hall by only 1 point after 9 matches and 1047 points had been played. Findlater's (24) contribution to the play was the deciding factor with wins against Abel (42) 61-58; Gray (18) 61-54; and Milne (20) 61-53. In the final match of the evening Findlater held Gray to 54 points and so secured the title for the McClymont Club.
The final of the North of Scotland Shield was no less enthralling as McClymont A (Nick Baxter, Stuart Matthew, Nicol Craig) gradually coped with their significant handicap disadvantage against the ALC Aces players (Mike Booth, Arthur Anderson, Roger Duncan) and won another trophy for their club. At one point it looked as though the defensive style of Arthur Anderson combined with his counter-attacking backhand flick might just be enough to upset the youngsters rhythm when Anderson (39) beat Matthew (5) 61-59. Anderson who started playing table tennis at the age of 18 in Aberdeen Lads Club at Woodside some 61 years ago went on to beat Baxter 61-29 in the final match of the evening and as a result the differential between the team was reduced to 15 points.
Triangle Veterans, Seaton Seniors and Triangle Lions are still all in contention for the title in division 2 with McClymont B and Triangle Swifts the only contenders in division 3.
Ellon Ospreys will finish in bottom place in division 1.
The AGM will be held in the McClymont Hall on Thursday 18 May at 7.30 when all presentation of trophies will take place.
The North Confined which was due to take place today in the McClymont Hall was cancelled due to a disappointing lack of entries.
